ORANGE, Calif.—Two males and one female were killed and four others—including the motorist behind the wheel—were injured in a fiery, single-vehicle crash on July 9 in Orange.

At about 2:45 a.m., officers conducting a traffic stop at Lincoln Avenue and Glassell Street spotted a speeding 2005 Nissan Altima heading southbound on Glassell Street and “tried to catch up with it,” said Sgt. Phil McMullin of the Orange Police Department.

When they arrived at Glassell Street and Taft Avenue, the car was engulfed in flames and a possible nitrous oxide tank and balloons were found “in and around the vehicle,” McMullin said.

“It [the vehicle] hit guardrails and signal lights related to a railroad crossing,” he said.

The two males and female were pronounced dead at the scene and paramedics rushed four people—three with critical injuries and one with moderate injuries—to hospitals, he said. One of the critically injured was the motorist driving the Nissan.

Two of the three critically injured people were juveniles, he added.

“Impairment and speed were factors in this collision,” McMullin said.

Orange police urged anyone with information regarding the crash to call them at 714-744-7444.
